From Good Reads:
Magic is dangerous--but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own...

My Review:
I make no bones about how much of an anglophile I am. I also make it clear that I love the Shadowhunter world that Cassandra Clare has built in her series, THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS. So, when I heard that the two would collide in her new series, THE INFERNAL DEVICES, I knew that CLOCKWORK ANGEL would be a must read for me.

This novel introduces the Shadowhunters decades before THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, in a Victorian London. But, make no mistake, the villians here are just as indominable as their contemporary counterparts. Tessa Gray is the primary character, wading her way through danger at the hands of the Dark Sisters, and their mysterious master, The Magister.

One of the reasons that I love Clare's books so much, is her utter skill in building the world her characters inhabit. Thoroughly researched, but still wholely inventive, she engages all parts of me, as a reader. My intellect, imagination, curiosity, and thrill-seeker are always completely sated when I turn the last page. CLOCKWORK ANGEL is the perfect book for any fantasy reader that needs pages full of mystery, history, danger and excitement.

5/5 for plot
5/5 for characters
5/5 for language

My Rating: 15/15 Must Read
