June is audiobook month! I've been "reading" books via this format for about a year now, and I know that some readers still find it challenging to listen to books. So, here's your chance for a risk-free opportunity to try out an audiobook, whether it is your first time reading in this manner, you've tried an audiobook before but didn't quite find the right fit, or you're an audiobook aficionado.
I'm having a giveaway of the audiobook version of UNCOMMON CRIMINALS (HEIST SOCIETY #2) by Ally Carter.
Here's the synopsis from GoodReads:
Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life: Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.
There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long — and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous, and that is . . . the emerald is cursed.
Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all, she has her best friend — the gorgeous Hale — and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses and realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.
Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules.
Rules:
1. Must be 13+
2. Answer this question in comments: Have you ever tried an audiobook? If so,
what did you like about the book? (Ex. narrator, story, accents...) If not,
what has turned you off so far?
3. Your comment is your entry
4. +1 for being blog follower or twitter follower
5. One entry per person
6. Leave a way to contact you
7. Contest ends June 30th, 6pm edt
I haven't tried an audiobook yet because I feel like I'll get lost and stop paying attention to the story if I listen to it!

Thanks so much for the contest!
ReplyDeleteI actually have tried audiobooks. Last summer, a few publishing companies were teaming up and giving away audiobooks every week. I think the only one I heard in it's completion was Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment (I think that's what it was. I know it was the first one.) It was really well done, and the voice acting was very good. It didn't turn me off or on, I've just never had the time or money to listen to audiobooks. I'm always willing to give it a shot though, thanks!

Yes I do like audio books. I was skeptic at first but I gave it a try recently and found I really liked it.
ReplyDeleteI would listen to it just before turning in at night and it feels as though someone is reading a bedtime story. I do like the accents because it helps to differentiate the characters and I think it just adds to the story telling.

I've listened to audiobooks. I love them when I'm driving.

I love audiobooks! I have a 30 minute commute to work and it's a great way to fill the time (no morning shows with no music!) A good narrator can make or break it, for sure.

I haven't yet tried Audiobooks because they're more expensive than the real book! But I think it'd be really relaxing to listen to on in the car :)

I have not tried any audiobooks so far because I don't think I'll really be able to concentrate as well as I do when I read a book... might get distracted by other things while listening. But you never know, that may not be the case when I actually do try an audiobook sometime...

I've only listened to a few and they were okay but I prefer a print or a ebook.

Definitely the narrator. I didn't even finish one book because I just couldn't stand the way the guy talked. He was trying to hard.

Awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have tried an audiobook. Only one so far, and that one is such a weird choice; it's Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. The sole reason I have it is that Benedict Cumberbatch is the reader, and his voice is lovely!
I think the reason I've been a little hesitant to shell out the money for an audiobook is the length of the tape and the pace of the reader.
But this is cool, and I hope I win to try it out for real.
Thanks for the giveaway,

I've never heard an audio book. Some of them are far too expensive and it's cheaper to purchase the physical copy.

I love Georgette Heyer books and the actor Richard Armitage. Luckily, he did the voice acting for some of her audiobooks. They're lovely!
