Excerpt from Illusions:

“You want a kiss that makes you feel like you are flying?” I ask, speaking barely above a whisper.

“Uh huh,” she says.

“Explain.”

“I always thought that it would be the most romantic feeling to kiss among the clouds. Since I can’t fly, and I will never, and I mean never jump out of a plane, a kiss that felt like I was flying was as close as I was going to get,” she explains.

“How long have you wanted that?” I can’t help but smile. There is something about these innocent confessions that makes me want to be the romantic man that can give her what she wants.

“Since I was a little girl. When I was little, I would lay out in the backyard and look up at the clouds. One day, when I was laying out there, I saw two birds flying together and I thought it would be the most amazing feeling.” Sighing, she snuggles in closer to me.

I'm the princess, at least that's what my family believes. In their eyes, I can do no wrong. I was tired of trying to be perfect, so I left. I moved across the country and opened Illusions with my best friend. It's not your average upscale nightclub. What happens behind the scenes is where I get to go from princess to vixen. I never ran into any of the gentlemen that came into Illusions in the real world. Until him. Now, I'm in serious trouble. Not only is he a repeat customer, but he is my brother's best friend and business partner.

Cole
The stress of opening the new office finally got to me. I'd heard about Illusions, an upscale nightclub, in the middle of town. I went for more than a drink and found the one woman I can't get off my mind. I'd give anything to see her again. Turns out that isn't too unlikely. I didn't expect her to be my best friend and business partner's little sister. They call her the princess, but to me, she is my kitten.

Parker has been running on autopilot ever since she lost her friend, mentor, and the only family she's ever known, Bert Stein. Blog Tour - Book Review and Guest Post: Fierce and Fabulous (Sassy Boyz #1) by Elizabeth Varlet @kismetbt

About the Author:

Elizabeth Varlet is a nerd at heart and spends way too many hours binging on episodes of her favorite television shows. If you love Doctor Who, Supernatural, Stargate, Star Trek, Sherlock, or Firefly you are already her best friend.

She started writing stories in high school and hasn’t stopped. Now, her characters like to get frisky under the covers – or the stars, they’re not picky. She’s a thirty-something, newly married, world traveler who devours books like they were candy.

How long did it take you to write Fierce and Fabulous? Did you have any stumbling or writer's block while writing?

Hello! And thank you for having me here on Read My Mind. I’m thrilled to tell you about my writing process and how long Fierce & Fabulous took from conception to finished product.

Fierce & Fabulous was actually my 2014 NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) novel so I managed to write most of it in one month (November). Though, I admit, the last few chapters took me longer mostly because I struggled with the deep emotions that the characters needed to work through towards the end of the novel.

I wouldn’t say I had writer’s block with this book. Ansel’s voice and motivations were so strong I always knew what was going to happen, but because of this I wanted to get his character right. It’s sometimes difficult to translate those imaginings & visceral emotions into text. In contrast, Dark & Dazzling was much more difficult for me to write and I did have a few instances where I stumbled because Z is quite mysterious and brooding.

I had a finished and polished draft of Fierce & Fabulous at the end of January 2015.

After that, I sent it to a handful of writer friends for critique. They gave me a lot of wonderful notes and I spent another several months editing. By March of 2015 I was ready to send the MS to agents. Anyone familiar with this process knows it’s basically a lot of waiting around and handling disappointment. This was no different. None of the agents I queried were prepared to sign me, so I moved on and began querying publishers directly.

This is where my luck changed. I got several offers, but the first and most enthusiastic was from Carina Press so I eventually signed with them for the first two books in the Sassy Boyz series and I could not be happier.

My Thoughts:

It took me a while to really like this book because I'm not a big fan of insta-lust/love, but what turned it around were the characters and their individual development, as well as the pacing and ending of the story. While I really couldn't say for sure if the characters were authentic or not, since I'm not a gay or bisexual man, they read as realistic and I could commiserate with their situations, despite not having experienced it personally. Both Ansel and Fitch had their flaws, which certainly makes it easier for me as a reader to empathize with who they are and why they do what they do. I really dislike reading about perfect characters with no problems because they aren't someone I can identify with, regardless of gender.

There's plenty of sex scenes in this book and author Varlet has managed to make them hot and sexy without going overboard. I liked how, even though Fitch was the one who was inexperienced in gay sex, he brought about a change in how Ansel connected with him during intimate moments, as compared to Ansel's past encounters with other men.

My only con with Fierce and Fabulous is the Gay For You (GFY) element because I'm not sure that I believe in GFY. I think that most people establish relationships with people based on attraction, and that Fitch clearly had just never encountered a male he was attracted to. But this doesn't equate to GFY, he's just a bisexual male who had only had relationships with women in the past. Fitch also seemed to adapt to having gay sex very easily for someone who had never participated in it before. I found that a little unbelievable, regardless of how attracted to Ansel he was.

Overall though, I enjoyed reading Fierce and Fabulous. This is a definite recommendation to readers who enjoy gay romance! The characters have an intense connection to each other despite their struggles and conflict.

Fierce and Fabulous has a Happy For Now (HFN) ending for Ansel and Fitch and I am eager to see how Varlet continues the series in book two. I'm hoping Ansel and Fitch are the focus of the second book as well because I'm interested in reading more about the progression of their relationship and to see more character development as their relationship proceeds.

Fierce and Fabulous (Sassy Boyz #1)
New Adult Contemporary LGBTQ Romance
Expected Publication: 27 June 2016 by Carina Press

Fans of Heidi Cullinan will devour this scorching new male/male series by Elizabeth Varlet. Behind the Sassy Boyz's seductive smiles and sinful dance moves are desires that will leave readers breathless.

Fitch Donovan never thought a lap dance could change his life, but from the moment the gorgeous dancer's lips touch his, his world comes screeching to a halt. No matter how hard he tries, he can't shake the desire that rocks him to his core. He's longed for this passion all his life—he just never dreamed he'd find it with another man.

Sharing a soul-shaking kiss with a straight boy is the kind of drama Ansel Becke just doesn't need. Spotlights aren't made for two and Ansel prefers to keep things on a one-night-only basis. So when Fitch shows up asking for an encore, Ansel knows he should send his gorgeous ass packing.

Though Ansel tries to pretend that what's between him and Fitch is far from fabulous, there's something about the big, burly contractor that makes Ansel's world sparkle in a way no amount of glitter ever could. And Fitch will do whatever it takes to convince Ansel that when the thing you need most in the world falls right into your lap, you'd be a fool to let it go.

Blog Tour - Author Interview: A.M. Arthur (Come What May, All Saints #1) @kismetbt

About the Author:

No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships and "bromance" (and "The Young Riders") with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments

Blog | Facebook | Twitter

What five words would you use to describe Come What May?
Hopeful, sexy, heartfelt, family, trust.

Was there a character in Come What May that was harder for you to write than the others? Why?
Jonas was a bit of a tricky character to write, because he can so easily come across as an ass (and my editor called me on this, too). He’s prickly at first, because he hates his current circumstances and is helpless to change them, but he also needed to be sympathetic. I had to find a balance between his sniping and his sensitive side, and he didn’t make it easy.

If you were creating a soundtrack for Come What May, what 2-5 songs would you want to include on it?
“Come What May” from Moulin Rouge!
“Bad Day” by Daniel Powter
“Proud” by Heather Small
“Born This Way,” by Lady Gaga

Why romance? What drew you to writing in this genre?
Hope. I love knowing that, no matter what circumstances the main couple is faced with, at the end of the day they will have their happy ending. Real life is so complicated, and we all don’t always find that one person who will love us, flaws and all, so the romance genre is a comfortable place to be when the waters of life get too freaking choppy.

How do you schedule writing time? Do you do a little every day, or have specific days each week that you write?
This past January, I was lucky enough to be able to cut back at my retail job and write full-time. It gives me a lot more freedom in how I structure my days/weeks now, and I still don’t have it down pat. But I do try to be in my home office and at my desk between 9-9:30 in the morning, break for lunch, and then work until around 4 or 5 pm. Since I still work 1 day a week at my retail job, I try to work at least 4 days in my home office, either writing or doing promotional stuff. That gives me two days off each week to spend as I like. It doesn’t always work out perfectly but I’m trying. It’s a work in progress.

New Adult Contemporary LGBTQ Romance

Jonas needs Tate. He just doesn't know it yet.

Or at least, he doesn't want to admit it. Because there is no way Jonas Ashcroft is gay. He's a straight, carefree frat boy player, just like any good son of a conservative state senator. If only his struggle to convince everyone—especially himself—didn't leave him so miserable. No matter how many girls or bottles he drowns himself in, Jonas can neither escape nor accept who he is.

Enter Tate. He's smart, confident, and instantly sees right through Jonas's surly exterior. Sure, he's done things in life he's not proud of, but he knows who he is and what he wants. And what he wants is Jonas. As their easy friendship intensifies into something more, Tate introduces Jonas to a life he's never known. One filled with acceptance and sex and a love that terrifies and excites them both.

But some inner demons refuse to be shaken off so easily. When Jonas's old life barges in, he faces a shattering choice, one that could destroy everything he and Tate have fought so hard for. Sometimes love just isn't enough—and sometimes it's exactly what you need.

Blog Tour - Author Interview: Anna del Mar (At the Brink) @Danny_Bookworm @carinapress

About the Author:

Anna del Mar writes hot, smart romances that soothe the soul, challenge the mind, and satisfy the heart. Her stories focus on strong heroines struggling to find their place in the world and the brave, sexy, kickass, military heroes who defy the limits of their broken bodies to protect the women they love. She is the author of The Asset (Carina Press), the first novel of her Wounded Warrior series and three other novels scheduled for release during 2016.

A Georgetown University graduate, Anna enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing, and the sea. Writing is her addiction, her drug of choice, and what she wants to do all the time. The extraordinary men and women she met during her years as a Navy wife inspire the fabulous heroes and heroines at the center of her stories. When she stays put—which doesn’t happen very often—she lives in Florida with her indulgent husband and two very opinionated cats.

Describe At the Brink in 140 characters or less.
Yikes! Hello there, Read My Mind. You like to put pressure on a writer, don’t you? Let’s see. How about:

He’s a decorated war hero and former SEAL.
She’s trapped in a dangerous situation.
And he’s made her an offer she can’t refuse.

What was the hardest scene for you to write in At the Brink? Why?
Three scenes come to mind, not because they were hard to write, but rather because I had a lot riding on them when I wrote them. I think I’ve told the story elsewhere. When I was “auditioning” for Carina Press, I got a request from the editors considering my At the Brink submission. Requests like these are not unusual at Carina, as they’ve built their reputation by carefully selecting their authors. The editors wanted to see three new scenes added to the original manuscript. I guess in the end they must have liked them, because here we are. ☺ Curious about those scenes? Three hints: One scene involves a custom “active sex” piece of furniture. Another scene has to do with bunk beds. Lots of bunk beds. The third scene is very artistic. It involves paint. Body paint.

If you could choose a theme song to best represent At The Brink, what song would you choose?
Stand by you, by Rachel Platten: https://youtu.be/bwB9EMpW8eY

Also, I’m Gonna Love You Like I’m Gonna Lose you by Meghan Trainor and John Legend. https://youtu.be/2-MBfn8XjIU

Are you working on a writing project now? If so, can you share some details?
Sure! I’m currently working on two new novels and editing several of my upcoming titles. At the Brink marks my second release this year, coming on the heels of The Asset, book one of my Wounded Warrior series, a collection of romantic suspense novels about strong heroines struggling to find their place in the world and the brave, sexy, kickass, military heroes who challenge their limits to protect the women they love.

Right now, I’m putting the last touches on The Stranger, book two of the Wounded Warrior series, coming out in August. The Stranger is about Summer Silva, a warmth loving Miami architect who comes to Alaska chasing after her missing sister only to find herself stranded in the Alaskan wilderness and in danger from more than the elements. Only a mysterious, sexy stranger, an Alaskan scion and an ex-military pilot fighting his own demons who has no time for a lady in distress—let alone one who gets into trouble when she sleepwalks—can protect Summer from murder, treason and Alaska’s ruthless winter.

Blog Tour - Author Interview: Elley Arden (The Change Up: Arlington Aces #1) @ElleyWrites @Barclay_PR

About the Author:

Elley Arden is a born and bred Pennsylvanian who has lived as far west as Utah and as far north as Wisconsin. She drinks wine like it’s water (a slight exaggeration), prefers a night at the ballpark to a night on the town, and believes almond English toffee is the key to happiness. Elley has been reading romance novels since she was a sixteen-year-old babysitter, sneaking Judith McNaught and Danielle Steele novels off the bookshelves of the women who employed her. To say she’d been sheltered up to that point is an understatement. No one had ever told her women could live bold, love freely, and have sex lives that were exciting and fulfilling. (They don’t teach these things in Catholic school!) Now that she knows, she’s happy to spread the word. The women she writes about may be fictional, but the success, respect, and love they find on the page is a universal right for women everywhere.

Elley writes books with charming characters, emotional stories, and sexy romance. Visit The Bookshelf for a detailed listing.

All-time favorite sports movies and/or books
Oh! There are so many good sports movies and books. I’m not sure anything will ever dethrone Field of Dreams as my all-time favorite sports movie. I cry from beginning to end. Something about the movie grabs me by the heart and doesn’t let me go. I also enjoy A League of Their Own, Draft Day, and Moneyball. As for books, Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Chicago Stars (football) series is my all-time favorite with Rachel Gibson’s Chinooks (hockey) series a close runner up.

Of all your published works, what's been your most difficult (or time consuming) book to write and why?
I’ve had a few tough ones, mostly because of self-doubt. The last two books in my Cleveland Clash women’s football series were particularly difficult because I was struggling with some health issues (psoriatic arthritis, hypothyroidism, and severe anemia). It was a very harsh reminder that I’m only human and can only do so much. Fortunately, my editor, Tara, and my publisher, Crimson Romance, were incredibly understanding and accommodating.

What's your writing schedule? Do you fit in writing time every day or schedule specific days for writing?
I write full time, so my writing schedule is a lot like a normal work schedule. Once the house is empty, I get to work. Of course, I get distracted way too easily by things like laundry, and phone calls, and lunch dates, but flexibility is the beauty of this job. I also try very hard not to write in the evening or on weekends, so I can spend that time with my family and friends.

Excerpt from The Change Up:

She thought about that for a minute, thought about him, standing there, looking at her like she was the only woman in the world, and the heat was undeniable. The attraction unmistakable. Sam Sutter was a mouth-wateringly beautiful man. Five years younger and without a discernible life plan, but damn it, libidos didn’t care about those things. And honestly, the only thing holding her back from taking out all her recent frustrations on his blessed body right now was the fact his crew was just outside the leftfield wall.

To neutralize the lust bubbling in her veins, she asked, “Do you miss baseball?”

He looked broadsided by the random question and didn’t rush to answer.

“I know that came out of left field …” she grinned at her cleverness, “but I’ve been wondering about it ever since the festival. When my dad was asking you about baseball, you looked very uncomfortable.”

His gaze shifted away from her and anchored onto something in the grandstand, but then he shrugged like she hadn’t hit a nerve. “I was uncomfortable because I was worried about your father. I wasn’t sure what was going on. That’s all.” But his jaw pulsed, and she knew better.

“Sam …” She stepped closer, narrowing the space between them. “I saw that same look a minute ago when I asked you to help me out with the coaching prospects. You miss baseball. It’s okay to admit it. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be human. God, you played every year of your life until you were how old? Just because you were ready to hang it up professionally doesn’t mean you don’t miss the game personally.” He looked at her then with a hurt in his eyes that seemed to be saying maybe he wasn’t as ready to hang it up as he pretended to be.

“I miss some things more than others,” he said. “There’s a rush you get from playing the game.” Silence stretched out between them as the warm wind wrapped them in the sun-dried fragrances of spring. All the while, his eyes roamed her face until they focused on her lips.

“Fortunately you can get that rush from other things.”

“Like?” she asked, breathlessly, knowing damned well she was encouraging him.

“This,” he whispered before he leaned in and kissed her, a brush of his lips, soft as the breeze that carried the heated scent of his skin to her nose and then to her brain.

Commercial real estate mogul Rachel Reed is the one person her father can depend on, so when he walks into her Philadelphia office two weeks shy of her fortieth birthday to drop a personal and professional bomb, she rises to the occasion. She will help get his independent professional baseball team up and running before the inaugural season, and then … she will sell the team to recoup his substantial investment. It’s a tall order, but Rachel knows one thing for sure: a sexy nuisance from her past and a few acres of trees won’t stand in her way.

Former minor-leaguer-turned-landscaper Sam Sutter is surprised to find his brother’s ex in the woods behind the house he bought when he cashed out his signing bonus and said so long to baseball. He’s even more surprised to learn “his” trees are on her chopping block. There’s no way he’ll desecrate his nature-loving mother’s memory by letting that happen. But butting heads with the beautiful business woman is a tricky task that leads Sam to accept a position as head groundskeeper at her father’s stadium. Working under Rachel’s watchful, smoldering eyes might be Sam’s undoing.

She doesn’t know a thing about baseball. He swore off the sport ten years ago. But strange things happen when field dust gets in your veins.

Excerpt from Lost and Bound:

Leila

It’s six o’clock. I know he’ll be home soon so I’ve settled back in the basement. Some days he comes straight down to check on me, other days he’ll eat first and then visit me after dinner. Sometimes he doesn’t come down at all. Those days are rare, but they’re what I hope for.

Today is Wednesday. He’ll be tired, but will have more energy than the previous two nights. He’ll probably expect something from me. Maybe a blow job, perhaps something more. I know his routine better than he knows himself and most importantly, I know it without him realizing.

I hear the front door close then latch. I listen for this sound every day. The sound makes me quiver, even after all these years. It signifies the end of my solitude and the beginning of the torment that will follow.

I listen for his footsteps, his rubber soles hitting hardwood floors. The steps become louder and louder until I hear the basement doorknob turn.

Today he’s coming straight to see me. I take in a breath as his heavy footsteps descend the flimsy wooden staircase. He heads straight toward the bed where I am huddled, the bedside lamp the only glow in the otherwise dimly lit room.

“Good evening, precious,” he purrs and my skin instantly crawls from the sound of his voice. He pauses for a moment and then let’s out an exaggerated sigh. “Aren’t you going to say hello?” His tone tells me to comply.

I keep my voice even, void of any emotion. “Hello.”

The bed dips as he takes a seat on the edge and reaches for my bare foot. He runs his fingers along my skin and I fight back the urge to kick him in the face.

I used to be ticklish and no one could come close to touching my feet. It’s amazing how captivity can change things about a person. It can quash any quirks you used to have and make you feel nothing at all.

He reaches for my right foot and brings it to his lap, gently pressing each toe between his thumb and forefinger. I don’t know if this is supposed to be a turn on, but it’s not. Nothing this man does ever turns me on.

I stare at Osborne as he begins to massage the balls of my feet, repeating the same kneading motion with gentle pressure. I don’t know why he insists on touching my feet, I hate it and I hate him.

He stops massaging and runs a hand through his hair. Hair that was once brown, but now the grey is threatening to taking over. I wonder when I last looked at him. I hadn’t noticed the change in his hair color until now.

Osborne looks up at me, his eyes wrinkled at the sides.

“Have you been a good girl today?”

His lips form a subtle smirk. I hardly ever see him smile. The expression unsettles me.

“Answer me, Emmy,” he commands.

“I…I’m good.” Is all I can manage.

He runs his fingers along his chin, the overgrown stubble brushing against his fingertips.

“We have a party on Friday night,” he tells me.

I squeeze my eyes closed. Another party. I feel the tears pool in my eyes, but I blink them away.

“Rosa will be here tomorrow to help you get prepared.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose, determined not to let the tears fall.

“Emmy,” he says. When I don’t look at him, he says my name again. “Emmy.”

I open my eyes hesitantly. “Nod if you understand me.”

I nod my head once and he smiles, but it fades instantly.

“Good. Now, why aren’t you dressed for me?”

I waver slightly before opening a gap in my robe.

He draws in a deep breath in anticipation. It’s a disgusting sound that makes me want to gag. The air whistles between his teeth and then a low groan escapes from the back of his throat.

“There it is,” he says as the robe falls from my shoulders and onto the comforter.

His eyes assault me, focusing on my cleavage and then my naked crotch.

I’m wearing my Wednesday outfit, a red negligee with matching crotchless panties.

He loves this look, he tells me every time. He loves me in red.

“Beautiful,” he slurs the word as his hand reaches up my leg.

I close my eyes and hold my breath as if it’s an impulse. His hand trails up to my knee, his fingertips reaching the inside of my thigh as I mentally prepare myself. It won’t last forever. It won’t last forever. I repeat the mantra in my head. It usually gets me through nights like these.

Just when his finger reaches the apex of my thighs, the doorbell sounds. It’s faint but we both hear it, causing Osborne to snatch his hand away.

My eyes snap open. He’s already standing at the foot of the bed, looking toward the staircase.

“Not a word,” he warns.

He rushes upstairs and quietly closes the basement door behind him.

I hear his footsteps hurry toward the entry foyer as I sneak to the top of the staircase, listening for voices. I jump in surprise when the doorbell rings again. This isn’t normal. On Wednesday’s we don’t have visitors.

That’s how long I've been here. Captive. Frightened. Alone.

“Emmy,” he calls me. That’s not my name, but as more time passes I’m starting to forget things.

Blog Tour - Book Promo: Evil by Tijan

About the Author:

Hello~ (waves)

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

Excerpt from Evil:

“Kellan and Shay Braden, why is it always you two? And if it’s not the two of you, it’s your other two siblings. All the time.” Mr. Mirchak approached, shaking his head. “Who’d you fight this time, Kellan?”

I should’ve felt something, maybe remorse, but there was nothing. Matt had assaulted me. Kellan felt it and protected me. And if Matt chose to run away, then that was Matt’s decision. But still…I should’ve felt guilty.

Kellan drew to his full height of six one and squared his lean shoulders against the portly forty-something teacher. He shook his head. “Do you see anyone, Mr. Mirchak?”

The balding teacher shook his head. “I never see anyone, Kellan. That’s the problem. But I know that someone’s going to show up with a busted eye, maybe a shoulder. I don’t know, but there’s always something.” He turned away, but mumbled over his shoulder, “…too damn scared to say a thing…”

Kellan waited until the teacher had turned the corner before he flashed a smile. “What do you think?”

I rolled my eyes and kicked my locker open. “You didn’t have to hurt his jaw.”

“Right.” Kellan fell against the locker beside mine and studied me. “At least this way, he’ll shut up all the time. I’m getting tired of his mouth. The guy thinks he knows you too much. He doesn’t know anything.”

“Still…” I muttered as I bent inside to grab my book.

“Still,” Kellan mimicked me and yanked me out. “Why didn’t you do something, Shay?”

“What are you talk—?”

“Don’t. Not with me,” Kellan interrupted. “You could’ve stopped him long before I came around the corner. You knew I was coming. Why didn’t you stop him?”

“Maybe I wanted to hear his rhetoric on how hot I must be for him.”

“Don’t be funny, Shay. You’re not the funny one, remember?”

I smirked. “That’s funny. I don’t think that role’s been taken in our family.”

Kellan’s hand tightened on my arm. He pulled me closer and bent his head to my ear. “You always wait for me. Why?”

Maybe I couldn’t bring myself to do what he enjoyed. Maybe I liked knowing he’d always protect me or that someone would protect me. Maybe…maybe I enjoyed the sick pleasure knowing that someone like Matt could never really hurt me, though he didn’t know that fact. Or maybe…I whispered, “I don’t know, okay?”

I didn’t know. I had ideas. I had possible scenarios, but the only truth was, I could’ve easily broken Matt’s hold on me and I didn’t.

New Adult Paranormal Romance

You know that group of people in school that everyone fears? Popular. Beautiful. The in-crowd?

That was my family. Kind of.

We were above that group. We held court over everyone else. We were the best looking. We were the mysterious and elusive ones. Most of the girls wanted to (and did) date the guys, but they didn’t want to be one of us. They couldn’t be. They were our prey.

We were the feared.

But like every family, nothing is as it seems. That was my truth.

Kellan was in his own league. He was our leader and he was the one no one messed with. No one dared. He was ruthless, powerful, and no one could match him…

Except for me.

I was about to find out just how different I was from my family.

Blog Tour - Book Review: Falling Under You (Fixed #4.5) by Laurelin Paige @InkSlingerPR @LaurelinPaige

About the Author:

USA Today and New York Times Bestselling Author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine. She's also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn't do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

My Thoughts:

This is the first book that I've read in the Fixed series and although I didn't love it, I thought it was a good story and I liked the dynamic between Norma and Boyd. I will admit that I liked Boyd's character more than Norma, but the two of them together were hot and steamy.

While I didn't take to Norma as much as I would have liked, I did appreciate the fact that she was a successful, independent woman who had a lot of influence at Pierce Industries and also garnered a lot of trust from her boss, Hudson Pierce. This story appealed to me because of this, as well as the fact that it was an opposite May-December romance. It was nice to read about a powerful woman who was in charge at the office, but had enough confidence in herself (and ultimately Boyd) to submit to a man at home.

The one thing that really bothered me was that I didn't like that Norma and Boyd had to hide their relationship for so long. I agree that neither should have had to give up their job in favor of the other, just so that they would be complying with company policy, but I also feel that the two of them should have gone to Pierce sooner to work out a compromise, seeing as their personal relationship was not negatively affecting their work one.

Overall, I thought this was a sweet book about a man and woman trying to find a balance between a romantic relationship and a working relationship. It also piqued my interest in this series and I am excited to check out the rest of the books, to read about the other characters and relationships, in the Fixed world.

Note: The following excerpt is appropriate for readers 18 years and older

Excerpt from Falling Under You:

“Why is it,” he asked, reaching for the stamp, “do you think, that you mixed up your days in the first place?”

I shrugged, not sure where he was going with the question. “I don’t know. Got absorbed in work, I guess. Sometimes it’s hard to remember there’s a world outside of that.” I realized why he’d asked as I spoke my answer. “Oh.”

“But there’s a lot of world outside your office.” He pressed the stamp against my inner thigh, leaving a red rectangular mark on my skin. He moved it up higher and stamped me again. And again. Then several times on the inside of my other thigh.

I didn’t move to look at what the stamp said. It was too dark to see easily, and, anyway, I was transfixed by him—his mouth as he spoke, his hands as they moved with his task.

“There’s a lot of world I’d like to show you outside that room, Norma.” He set the stamp down so he could unbutton my blouse. Then he placed several more marks along my belly and along the top of my breasts.

Still, I kept my eyes on him.

He set the stamp down and reached for the roll of tape. “Give me your hands, please.”

I held them out, not surprised when he bound my wrists together with several layers of tape, the sticky part facing away from my skin. Next he moved to my legs, wrapping my ankle to the handle on a cupboard below me, then my other ankle to another handle so my legs were spread wide.

When he was finished, I pulled against them, testing their strength, and found all of them secure.

“Too tight?”

I shook my head.

“Good.” He nodded at me, his expression clouded with want. “All day long you sit at that desk, this is how I see you.”

“Half-naked?”

Falling Under You (Fixed 4.5)
Adult Contemporary Erotic Romance
Published: 10 May 2016 by Evil Eye Concepts, Incorporated

Norma Anders has always prided herself on her intelligence and determination. She climbed out of poverty, put herself through school and is now a chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries. She’s certainly a woman who won’t be topped. Not in business anyway.

But she’s pretty sure she’d like to be topped in the bedroom.

Unfortunately most men see independence and ambition in a woman and they run. Even her dominant boss, Hudson Pierce has turned down her advances, leaving her to fear that she will never find the lover she’s longing for.

Then the most unlikely candidate steps up. Boyd, her much-too-young and oh-so-hot assistant surprises her one night with bold suggestions and an authoritative demeanor he’s never shown her in the office.

It’s a bad idea…such a deliciously bad idea…but when Boyd takes the reins and leads her to sensual bliss she’s never known, the headstrong Norma can’t help but fall under his command.

About the Author:

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of NIGHT GAMES, GAME CHANGER and GAME ON.

"You were having a nightmare," she whispers, kneeling down beside my bed. "I hope you don't mind that I barged into your room like this, but when I heard you yelling through the wall, I was worried."

I sit up, kicking the covers aside, agitated that she had to see me like this. "Sorry," I mumble. "I didn't mean to disturb you."

She sighs, sitting back. "It's okay."

The night-light in the hall is extending a diagonal beam of light from the door across my bed. Though now that she's outside its reach, I can't really see her, but I can feel her eyes on me. I run my hands over my face, needing to reassure her somehow. I don't want her to be scared of me. I don't want her to leave.

So many things can happen to a person on a Central Park bench.

For Emerson Kingsley, falling in love happened, despite her broken monster of a heart.

Months of watching Maddox Bailey from a park bench are to blame for her infatuation. In her mind, the moment they meet will be spectacular if she ever finds the nerve to speak to him.

But when the two share an awkward cab ride, she realizes that maybe fantasies are meant to stay that way.

The only problem is, now that they’ve met, he keeps popping up in her life. Each time he does, Emerson finds the real-life Maddox to be better than anything she could’ve dreamed—sexy, passionate, and sweeter than his chocolate brown eyes.
